The label is a reminder, not the whole safety program. It tells the next person that behind this cover is energy that can burn through PPE if you get it wrong.

On an industrial site I treat the label as the trigger to stop, check the study, and dress for the incident energy before I ever touch the cover.

When it applies

This applies to equipment likely to be worked on while energized — switchboards, panelboards, industrial control panels, meter socket enclosures and motor control centers in other than dwelling occupancies. The label warns the worker before the cover ever comes off.

Common mistakes

In the field

Before I open any energized MCC bucket, I read the field label and confirm my PPE matches the hazard. The warning exists because an arc flash gives no second chance; a torn ligament heals, a thermal burn from a bolted fault does not forgive a shortcut.
